Recovering the centrality of this motif is essential for the purity and devotion of the True Bride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Contexto b\u00edblico: la totalidad de las Escrituras.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scripture opens and closes with marriage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list list-type\">\n<li>Genesis 2:24 \u2014 \u201cTherefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revelation 19:7\u20139 \u2014 \u201cLet us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready\u2026 Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revelation 21:2, 9 \u2014 The holy city, new Jerusalem, comes down \u201cprepared as a bride adorned for her husband.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between these bookends the motif runs consistently:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list list-type\">\n<li>The prophets repeatedly describe Yahweh\u2019s covenant with Israel in marital terms and call idolatry adultery or harlotry (Hosea 1\u20133; Jeremiah 2\u20133; Ezekiel 16; Isaiah 54, 62).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jesus identifies Himself as the Bridegroom (Matthew 9:15; John 3:29).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paul states that the one-flesh union \u201crefers to Christ and the church\u201d (Ephesians 5:31\u201332) and that he betrothed the Corinthian believers \u201cto one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ\u201d (2 Corinthians 11:2).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The entire New Testament presents the Church as the people purchased, purified, and prepared by the Bridegroom for the final wedding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Clarification on Method<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this paper we use the term <em>typology<\/em> for the biblically authorized pattern in which earlier persons, events, or institutions point forward to Christ and the Church. Typology remains grounded in the historical meaning of the text and is controlled by the way Jesus and the apostles read Scripture (Luke 24:27, 44\u201347). It is not allegory. It weakens the Church\u2019s grasp of exclusive devotion, purity, and the goal toward which all history moves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Comprensi\u00f3n ante-nicena<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The earliest Christian writers received the marriage motif as central rather than peripheral. They read the Church as the Bride being prepared for Christ, emphasized purity and exclusive loyalty, and expected the visible return of the Bridegroom. They did not treat bridal language as a minor metaphor that could be set aside without loss. Exclusive devotion and inward purification are present realities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Not Yet<\/strong>: The public marriage supper, the final presentation of the Bride without spot or wrinkle, and the full removal of every rival claim still lie ahead. He has already given one: the Bride. Earthly marriage exists, in part, so that we would never forget what exclusive, covenantal, self-giving love looks like. When the Church loses the centrality of this motif, she becomes vulnerable to spiritual bigamy\u2014attaching her loyalty to nations, institutions, movements, experiences, or cultural projects that compete with her Husband. Recovering the marriage motif is not a specialty interest. It is a return to the way God Himself taught us to see His Son and His people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Practical Steps<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list list-type\">\n<li>Read Scripture with the marriage motif as a governing lens: ask how each major movement of the biblical story reveals the Bridegroom or the preparation of the Bride.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluate teachings, movements, and loyalties by whether they strengthen or dilute exclusive devotion to Christ.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Let earthly marriage (where it exists) function as living typology\u2014husbands loving as Christ loved the Church, wives responding as the Church responds to Christ\u2014without making earthly marriage the condition of belonging to the Bride.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teach the next generation that their primary identity is membership in the multi-ethnic Bride purchased by the Lamb, not membership in a denomination, nation, or cultural tribe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When confusion arises about the Church, the Kingdom, or the future, return first to the simple question: What does this mean for a Bride waiting for her Bridegroom?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pregunta de reflexi\u00f3n<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have I treated the marriage motif as a beautiful but secondary illustration, or have I received it as one of the primary ways God Himself taught us to understand His Son and the people He is preparing for the marriage supper of the Lamb?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Contraargumentos comunes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list list-type\">\n<li>\u201cThe marriage motif is just one metaphor among many; we should not make it so central.\u201d Response: God created marriage in the beginning for His creation precisely so that we would have a living, visible picture that keeps us focused on His Son.
