When the Church justifies, blesses, or participates in killing and violence in the name of Christ, she adopts a logic foreign to her Husband and commits a form of spiritual bigamy\u2014aligning herself with the power methods of the world rather than with the cross-shaped way of the Lamb. The pure Bride is called to the same non-retaliatory, enemy-loving posture that her Bridegroom embodied and taught. Just as Israel\u2019s alliances with foreign powers and reliance on military strength were repeatedly called harlotry by the prophets, so the Church\u2019s justification of violence in Christ\u2019s name is a betrayal of her bridal identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comprensi\u00f3n ante-nicena<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pre-Constantinian Church largely refused participation in killing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list list-type\">\n<li>Tertullian, Origen, Hippolytus, and others taught that military service involving bloodshed was incompatible with following Christ.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Soldiers who converted were often required to refuse to kill or leave the army.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The early Christians understood the kingdom as advancing by the blood of the martyrs and the power of the Spirit, not by the blood of enemies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only after the Church\u2019s marriage to imperial power in the fourth century did the justification of Christian violence become widespread. The Ante-Nicene consensus stands as a clear witness against that later development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ya y a\u00fan no<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list list-type\">\n<li><strong>Already<\/strong>: The Bride lives under the reign of the slain Lamb and is called to embody His non-violent, cross-shaped love in the present age.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Not Yet<\/strong>: The final judgment of evil and the public defeat of all violence belong to the returning Bridegroom. The Church does not seize that role in advance by taking up the sword.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Silogismo l\u00f3gico<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list list-type-2\">\n<li>Major Premise: The Bridegroom advanced His kingdom and secured His Bride by being slain, not by killing, and He commanded His followers to love enemies and refuse the sword.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minor Premise: When the Church justifies or participates in killing in the name of Christ, she adopts a logic contrary to her Husband and aligns herself with earthly power.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conclusion: Such justification of violence constitutes spiritual bigamy and a betrayal of the pure Bride\u2019s exclusive loyalty to the Lamb.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Resumen pastoral<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The logic of the Bridegroom is the logic of the cross. He did not kill His enemies; He died for them. The Bride who follows Him cannot baptize violence without dividing her heart. This does not mean passivity in the face of evil or the denial of the state\u2019s limited role under God. It does mean that the Church herself must never adopt killing as her method or bless it as the advance of the kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her power is the power of the slain Lamb, her weapons are spiritual, and her victory is won by faithful witness and endurance. When she forgets this, she ceases to look like the Bride and begins to look like every other power structure in the world. The power of the Spirit is sufficient. Realism that abandons the command of Christ is unbelief.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThe state bears the sword; Christians may serve in it.\u201d <strong>Response<\/strong>: Scripture assigns the sword to the governing authority (Romans 13). It never assigns the Church the right to bless or participate in killing as an expression of the kingdom. The Bride\u2019s distinct calling remains the way of the cross.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThis position is pacifist and weak.\u201d <strong>Response<\/strong>: There is nothing weak about refusing to kill while remaining faithful unto death. The martyrs were not weak.
